Discussing webpages
From Arnout Engelen
This idea has been implemented a few times:
- http://www.gabbly.com (does not support IRC)
- http://www.peekko.com (seems nice)
- http://www.quick-chat.net (haven't tried yet)
- http://www.yakalike.com (haven't tried yet, does not support IRC)
- http://www.chatsum.com/ (more IM than chat, no IRC)
- http://www.yaplet.com/ (no IRC, runs in sidebar/frame, started from bookmarklet)
A comparision can be found at http://dp.onabun.com/wp/2006/03-12/review-social-browsing-extensions/#more-43

[edit] What to show in firefox plugin
- x users chatting in channel
- 'join now' (either with embedded or external irc app)
- more?
[edit] external irc application
Ability to configure peekko to use whatever handles irc:// (i.e. chatzilla!) instead of the integrated irc client.
[edit] Linking pages to channels
<link rel=chat type=irc (?) href="irc://irc.freenode.net/pathalizer"/>
[edit] Accessing this information from a firefox extension
Moved to a seperate page: firefox extensions
[edit] Showing stats
Showing # of users can be tricky - maybe support it just for a couple of known servers? (freenode, ircnet, etc)?
